What most people don’t know about nutrients is literally draining their life force!
In fact, many aspects of our stress-filled, modern lifestyles cause us to become nutrient-deficient, without us even realizing it! This is where Dr. Chelsea Gronick’s IV therapy in Kelowna can play a pivotal role in restoring balance and vitality.
You see, people assume just because they have plenty of food to eat that their nutrition is on par as well. But nothing could be farther from the truth!! In my opinion, we live in a world where most people are overfed, undernourished, and overstressed. Dr. Chelsea Gronick’s IV therapy in Kelowna offers a solution to directly address these imbalances by delivering essential nutrients right where they’re needed most—into your bloodstream!
The first place where this shows up is in your energy levels!
It’s nutrient deficiencies that might be the primary cause of symptoms people commonly associate with “just getting older”. Most people, despite their best efforts, are simply running on empty and this is why their bodies are grinding to a halt! Fortunately, Dr. Chelsea Gronick’s IV therapy Kelowna can provide a powerful boost to replenish depleted nutrient stores and revitalize your overall health.
The ways we lose nutrients may surprise you.
Some of the ways this happens include eating highly processed foods (that have many nutrients stripped out to begin with), as well as taking prescription medicines, poor stress management, chronic inflammation, overdoing it with caffeine and alcohol, as well as a lack of restorative sleep.
Even when people try their best to eat healthy, our soil itself has become so nutrient-depleted due to conventional farming practices over the last decades – such that we now witness a rapid decrease in nutrient density even among the healthiest foods!
In addition, chemicals such as pesticides and preservatives are now commonplace within our food chain, only adding to the already sizeable toxic burden brought on by other environmental toxins, plasticizers, and xenoestrogens that heavily tax your liver’s function and increase the need for nutrients for proper detoxification.
Another common reason for nutrient depletion is simply poor nutrient absorption in the first place: When you are dealing with leaky gut, food allergies, and/or gut dysbiosis, your intestinal flora becomes compromised – leading to chronic inflammation, impaired GI motility, and a host of other complications associated with IBS, leaky gut, or small intestinal bacterial or yeast overgrowth that ultimately translate into poor nutrient absorption.
Hormone imbalances are another very common scenario in my practice – that can contribute to nutrient depletion: Many women on hormone replacement therapy, like the birth control pill, don’t realize that these medications also deplete things like all of our B vitamins and our magnesium levels, yet unfortunately, few doctors educate about this.
Apart from hormone replacement therapies, there are many other medications (including seemingly safe over-the-counter drugs) that deplete the body of key nutrients, including:
- Antacids (think Nexium, Prilosec and Tagamet)
- Antibiotics
- Antipsychotics
- Anxiety medications
- Oral Contraceptives
- Anti-Hypertensives (Blood Pressure Medication)
- Statins (Cholesterol Lowering Meds)
- Corticosteroids
- Diabetes medications
- Diuretics
Regardless, most people are dealing with several deficiencies, the typically ones being B12, magnesium, zinc, vitamin C, glutathione, B complex, just to name the standouts.
So what happens when you don’t have the right nutrients “on board”?
When you don’t have good levels of these key nutrients, your energy pathways and immune system can’t operate at the highest level. This in turn affects many of your body’s repair mechanisms as well. Dr. Chelsea Gronick’s IV therapy Kelowna can be an effective way to address these deficiencies by delivering essential nutrients directly into your bloodstream.
When we become depleted and deficient in nutrients… it impacts us at the deepest level – our cells!!
In fact, our cells become starved and our body’s ability to function starts to decline… we can’t produce energy well and we become fatigued. We can literally see this happening when we lose our hair faster and it doesn’t grow back as quickly.
What’s even more concerning is that our immune system starts to get run down and depleted. Our brains can’t focus as clearly and our memory starts to decline, our metabolism becomes slower and we can start to gain weight or have a harder time losing weight.
People may notice that they don’t sleep or regenerate as well, especially after workouts and their joints can start to become painful and inflamed.
This is when people may seek out their primary care provider, complaining of low moods or depression.
They may blame it on stress, yet they may simply not have enough nutrients for their brain to make neurotransmitters – so this naturally leads to low moods and can even cause depression and anxiety.
Sadly, people don’t get help where they need it the most! They end up going home with a prescription for antidepressants… which doesn’t address their low nutrient levels!
So while getting a yearly check-up is smart, it doesn’t really give us a good gauge of where you stand nutritionally. Family doctors only test for iron and B12, so most people are walking around nutritionally-depleted without even realizing it. No one told them!
On top of this, family doctors are prescribing medications to correct issues/imbalances that are caused by nutrient deficiency, which then further exacerbates nutrient depletion… a truly vicious cycle!
This is where IV therapy can really help to renew and recharge the body – because when your body’s batteries are not fueled, you feel low energy and you don’t have the energy building blocks to heal your body. But fortunately, we can change that!
How IV Vitamin Therapy Can Help
I think everyone knows that we need a wide range of vitamins and minerals to function (and to look and feel our) best, but that’s really where the knowledge ends.
There’s so much conflicting advice out there on nutrition, it’s no wonder people are confused and they are doing all the wrong things!
Let’s face it, a lot of the commonly accepted wisdom about nutrition is just plain wrong and this is why one of my many goals is to educate.
People think that taking over-the-counter nutritional-grade supplements from large wholesale chains like Shoppers Drug Mart, Pharmasave, Walmart, Amazon or Costco is a good way to boost their health. This is a bad idea.
For one, supplements aren’t regulated so you have to trust that the companies making them have your best interest at heart! But the truth is most companies focus on their financial bottom line and don’t really invest into the quality of their products as they should.
Many times, wholesale retailers offer nutritional-grade supplements with the cheapest source of a nutrient without regard for its actual bioavailability…. meaning your body can’t absorb it as well compared to a pharmaceutical-grade supplement.
While taking medical-grade or pharmaceutical-grade supplements under your doctor’s guidance can be beneficial, even those supplements sometimes don’t get perfectly absorbed (or can be dosed high enough).
IV vitamin therapy differs from taking supplements because you get an immediate boost in energy, as nutrients are delivered directly into the bloodstream (bypassing the gastrointestinal system altogether).
Since most people have imbalances in their digestive system, supplements in pill form may or may not get absorbed. We can also give higher doses through an IV or injection that we couldn’t give orally, thus replenishing your levels faster and more efficiently.
From the bloodstream, these nutrients can be used immediately by your cells and tissues so that you will feel the benefits much faster compared to oral supplements. This is one of the ways we can help you at your very core – to improve your cellular and mitochondrial health.
This is one of the many reasons people have such a positive experience with IV vitamin therapy they can really feel their battery recharging! This is also true for people who already have a somewhat healthy lifestyle. And even despite eating healthy, and working out, you may not have the energy to live life the way you want because you are still shy of certain nutrients.
Your Next Steps
IV vitamin therapy and vitamin shots or injections can help improve many symptoms due to nutrient depletion while boosting energy, mood, metabolism, and the immune system – plus creating more resilience against viral infections!
That’s why I want to share with you what to expect during your IV vitamin therapy session and also cover some of the most frequently asked questions that people who are new to this therapy typically ask.
You can think of IV vitamin therapy more as a spa treatment instead of a medical procedure. Most IV vitamin infusions take approximately 60 to 90 mins and you can relax, read, or just have some “me” time during your therapy. You should plan on wearing comfortable clothing if possible.
Depending on the therapy you choose (for example higher dose therapies like vitamin C, NAD, or amino acids), sessions can take slightly longer. During your therapy, you may feel sensations of relaxation, and an increase in energy, and later notice a reduction in allergies and general aches and pains.
“What if I’m afraid of needles” I hear from patients occasionally. IV vitamin therapy should not be painful, just a very slight prick from a tiny needle stick, in most cases less painful than tweezing an eyebrow!
Plan to eat your regularly scheduled meal 1-3 hours before having your therapy, to stabilize your blood sugar, as some infusions may affect blood sugar. Most patients will bring a small snack to have on hand if they are in between meals. If you are diabetic, monitor your insulin dosage and bring snacks with you to your appointment.
Hydrate well with water the day before and 1-3 hours before your therapy. As with any traditional spa treatment aimed to relax and fortify you, don’t forget to hydrate well later in the day.
I look forward to helping you on your journey to optimal health and well-being!
